How to Set up Live Streaming Session on YouTube

YouTube Live Streaming lets you connect with your subscribers as you host and broadcast live events on your YouTube channel. However, before you conduct a live streaming event, you should know of the requirements.

Here is a guide to help you.

The Requirements

There are some things that are needed before you start live streaming to YouTube.

Here are some of them:

  • A high-quality camera or a basic webcam and a microphone {if you’re using a desktop 
  • A high-performance system. Ideally, your system should have a dedicated graphics card, a good processor, and an updated OS.
  • High-speed internet connection. Preferably, use one with at least 10Mbps speed.
  • A verified account. Your YouTube account must be verified according to the Google guidelines.


If you are using your mobile device, you can use the YouTube app to stream. However, ensure that the phone/tablet has enough RAM to prevent unnecessary lagging. Ideally, conduct the live stream in a soundproof environment. Above all, the surrounding should be well-lit.

With YouTube, you can stream with the right encoders and some system networks. You might need a professional to mix the video for smooth switching of the frames if you’ll be using multiple cameras.

How To Set Up a YouTube Live Stream

If your video streaming devices are in check, and your account is verified, you can now proceed to set up the live streaming session. Here is how to go about it;

Step One: Enable the Live Stream

Navigate to Channel Settings, then move to Status and Features and click/tap on it. After that, you’ll need to enable the Live streaming option, and accept the Terms of Service {TOS} of the platform.


Step Two: Start Streaming. 

You’ll then need to start streaming my opening the Creator Studio and clicking on Live Stream. After that, you simply need to click on Stream Now, and you’ll be live.

Ideally, follow this procedure when you are ready to conduct the live stream. Your subscribers will be alerted as soon as you start streaming.

If you need to schedule a Live Broadcast, simply move to Events on the menu bar, and click on Advanced Settings. From there, you can set up live chats, monetization, private broadcasts, or restrict the age of the viewers.
